Annabelle Kyle Dortch, PsyD | Services

I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist offering individual teletherapy throughout the states of California and New York.

I provide individual teletherapy to adults and young adults navigating chronic stress, anxiety, and the impacts of trauma. My therapy treatment incorporates Relational Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Somatic Theory, and Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR). If you are interested in learning more about these modalities and my specialties, I have included brief summaries below.

Relational Therapy

Relational Therapy focuses first and foremost on building a strong relationship between the client and therapist. Through this relationship the client and therapist work together to 1) Explore how the client learned to connect to self and others early in life, 2) Identify how these patterns of relating are impacting the client's current life, relationships, and mental health, 3) Find new ways of connecting with self and others.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy incorporates specific skills that encourage sustainable coping when difficult situations, feelings, and thoughts are present.

Somatic Theory

Somatic Theory focuses on how the body physiologically responds to emotions/ thoughts/ stress/ & trauma. Being aware of what the body is experiencing increases self-knowledge and can inform what kind of coping skills would be most supportive.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Internal Family Systems (IFS)  We are all made up of different parts: While one part of you may feel confident, there may be another part of you that is filled with self-doubt, and maybe even another part that turns to people pleasing or perfectionism to soothe the self-doubt. IFS helps you understand and support the different ‘parts’ of yourself (instead of fighting or suppressing them).

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing)

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) is a structured therapy process that helps the brain reprocess overwhelming, disturbing, or traumatic memories. If you find yourself ‘stuck’ in difficult memories, feelings, or patterns, EMDR can help your brain move through the experience without having to talk extensively about it.

Stress Recovery & Anxiety Management

Although stress and anxiety are not exactly the same, they share many similar features. In therapy we will both cope with the physiological/ mental distress (ex. increased heart rate, racing thoughts, shaking in the body, etc) and also do some back work to explore the stories surrounding your experience with chronic stress and anxiety.

Trauma Recovery

Put (overly) simply, trauma is a response that happens in the brain and body when a distressing event occurs that overwhelms an individual's ability to cope or metabolize the event(s). This can lead to feelings of helplessness, mistrust, constant hypervigilance, and frequent numbing/ disconnection. Working with trauma and engaging in trauma recovery in therapy is a slow process that requires a solid foundation of safety within the client-therapist relationship.
